The Oakland Tool Lending Library and the Friends of the Tool Library accept donations of new and used tools in good working order. We have the following restrictions on what we can accept:
- Donated tools must be in good working order and include all working parts.
- We do not accept any hardware or consumables (nails, screws, etc.).
- We do not accept tools that need excessive cleaning or preparation.
- The tool must be portable and small enough to fit in our storage space.
How to Donate Tools: A few items or boxes may be dropped off at any FOTLL Tool Sale, held on the first and third Saturday of most months. Because storage space is limited, before donating large, heavy or specialized tools, or a large quantity of tools, please e-mail FriendsoftheOaklandTLL@gmail.com. Photographs are helpful but not necessary. A FOTLL volunteer may be able to pick up your donation. Although most donated tools are sold, some are used in FOTLL’s free DIY workshops or programs like the Junior Carpenters’ Club. Donated tool that meet the Tool Library’s criteria may be offered to them. Occasionally, specialized items (i.e., bookbinding tools, gas powered equipment), tools that are slow to sell, or are already in the inventory will be offered to other nonprofits, like The Crucible or the tool library in Concow (Butte County, California).
